Use the Value Builder Survey to Understand Business Value

The Value Builder System was developed by author John Warrillow to help business owners understand the value of their business from a buyer’s perspective. The first step is for the business owner to fill out a 40 question survey which will provide them with their overall Value Builder Score. Their answers are compiled and compared against 23,000+ businesses to create their scores for each of the 8 value drivers. Additionally, several reports and presentations are automatically created explaining the business owner’s scores as well as suggestions for improving their scores.

West Michigan Entrepreneur Purchases Schuil Coffee

Rua Associates LLC, West Michigan’s premier mergers and acquisitions firm, is pleased to announce the successful sale of Schuil Coffee Company, a West Michigan-based specialty coffee roasting company.

Tim Volkema, 40, purchased the business in late June from Greta Schuil. Schuil has been running the company the past 20 years. She plans to assist with a smooth transition and then pursue other interests. Terms were not disclosed, but Tim Volkema said the business will remain “a closely-held family business with no debt, allowing us to focus on our customers and hold a long-term view in our decision making.”

The 10-person full-time staff of Schuil Coffee remained with the company following the purchase, so operations were not affected by the ownership change. “Our goal is to make the transition as seamless and transparent for our customers as possible,” he said.

Today, Schuil Coffee roasts, packages and sells more than 100 coffees, including Schuil Blends, Fair Trade Organic, Flavored and Estate coffees from important coffee-producing areas like Sumatra, Yemen, Zimbabwe, Guatemala, the Andes, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Brazil and Costa Rica.

Schuil Coffee has been supplying coffee and tea on a wholesale basis to retailers, coffee shops and restaurants throughout the Midwest since 1981. The company also sells products and provides brewing equipment and accessories directly to offices of all kinds -- companies, churches, hospitals, etc.

Rua Associates has announced that it will partner with the Community Foundation to help further the Foundation’s “Today. Tomorrow. Forever.” campaign efforts to grow the Community’s Endowment for the Holland/Zeeland area.

Rua Associates, merger and acquisition strategists, is headquartered in Zeeland, but does business throughout the Midwest. Most of their 12 employees live in the Holland/Zeeland area, and they wanted to find a way to increase their local impact, recognizing that when a business owner sells, it has a ripple effect on the entire community - the employees, suppliers, vendors, and the seller’s and buyer’s families.

Depending on the situation, Rua Associates will match the business seller’s donation to the “Today.Tomorrow.Forever” campaign, dollar for dollar.
